Day Eleven: Care to join me on a trip to the store?

I try my best to get to the grocery store every Sunday to stock up on dinner supplies for the week.

What was that?
You want to know what the dinner plan is for this week? Really?

Well, okay!

Tonight we'll be having Whole Wheat Linguine with Parmesan and Tomatoes.
Tomorrow? Chicken in Dijon Mustard Sauce.
Tuesday? Turkey Burritos with Tomatillo Salsa.
Wednesday? Chicken with Turkish Bean Salad.
Thursday? Grilled Cod with Red Onion Salsa.
Friday? Turkey Mustard Pretzel Burgers.

You're so funny. You want to see my grocery list? The one I just wrote in my little notebook thing?

Okay then!

The list is organized by aisle. Because I'm sly like a fox!

(I'll be doodling a bit on this list and then leaving it in the cart with the hope that it somehow lands in the hands of Mr. Keaggy.)

Do you need anything while I'm out? Is there anything that I missed?

EDITED TO ADD: The Friday Turkey Burger recipe is now linked! (I add a few tablespoons of Dijon mustard to the mix. The pretzels bulk up the burgers, but don't add much flavor.)

I too like organizing my list by aisle. It seems to go faster becuase i don't have to walk the length of the store a dozen times to get everything.

Did you remember T.P.? I always seem to forget that and when i get home we're on the last roll.

So, you've already got the Mustard Pretzels (or is that mustard and pretzels?) on hand in the pantry -- like for emergencies? Or is it just that you can't buy those so far ahead of time lest the key burger ingredient disappear before prep time on Friday?? Or, is the intriguingly-named Friday entry really a hoax??? If not, I do believe we'll be needing a recipe come Friday. So there you go -- another blog entry in the making!

(you can thank me later :-)

In college I would write my grocery lists in my palm pilot, and assign the priority number based on aisle. 1's were produce, the first section I would go to, 2's were dairy, 3's were bakery, etc all the way down to frozen section. I'd check the item off as done and it would disappear, and the next number would pop to the top of the list. In retrospect it was more OCD than organized, and thankfully the palm pilot is no longer a staple in my purse. I think it's been relegated to the outdated electronic equipment graveyard.

Can I just say that your family eats much better than mine? Dinner is more of a nuisance for me than anything else.

I'd just finished writing out my grocery list when I popped over to read this! I used to organize mine by aisle, but then we moved and I haven't gotten around to thoroughly mapping our new store.

Violetkey--We buy TP in bulk twice a year. We're into changing the clocks, switching out the smoke alarm batteries, and stocking up on toilet paper all at once.

Carroll--I bought the mustard pretzels last week, but the store was all out of ground turkey. Luckily, I haven't dipped into the pretzels just yet. The recipe can be found here. (The pretzels don't add much taste, so I also add a few tablespoons of Dijon mustard to the mix.) Perhaps I'll post pictures on Friday!

    Meghan--Genius!

Amy--Oh, dinner is a nuisance for me, too. But at the end of the day, if I can't come up with anything productive that I've done in the past eight hours, I'll throw together a decent dinner. It helps my self-esteem.

Islaygirl--Oh, don't you worry. I'm working on the world peace thing--one pound of ground turkey at a time!

Nichole--I'm glad to hear that a lot of people organize by aisle. I sort of hate myself for doing it, but it really does seem to save time, which is especially important if I have Harper and Meredith with me.

I have a really fabulous OCD friend, and I have a lot of fun teasing her by ever so slightly moving objects on her coffee table. In fact, this post inspired me to write about her.

I had never visited the grocery lists' site before. Hmmm... if I made lists, I would leave them behind in hopes someone would send it to him. Do you shop at the Schnucks, Dierbergs, TJ's or other? I'm usually a Shop n Saver because I have so many darn kids but last night, I went to the Schnucks.

Your handwriting! It is the most fabulous! Ever! It looks like a font, seriously. Did you make it pretty because you knew you'd be posting it, or is it just like that? What sort of pen do you use? Yes, yes, I know I'm being creepy, but it stems from deep admiration, I promise.

Pick me up a couple cans of whoop ass and 12 ounces of ground-up pain. The whoop-ass in North Carolina costs more, and frankly, Missouri whoop ass isn't as stringy.

Just Beachy--If you're a mustard person, you'll love the burgers!

Amy--I linked it for you! Enjoy!

Witchypoo--Wait. Are you saying I'm exhibiting signs of OCD? I'm going to go wash my hands again, and we'll talk.

Kimblahg--Schnucks. Specifically, Schnucks at Olive and Lindbergh. (According to Meredith, their "Free cookies for those 10 and under" are much better than the ones at Dierbergs.)

Feather--Thanks! That's pretty much it! And the pen is just a cheapo Zebra gel thing. (I used to practice my handwriting in junior high--I wanted it to stick out against my best friend's. She was a master at bubble letters.)

Sir--They were all out of pain, but I got you a bottle of antagonism. It's surprisingly effervescent!

I organize by aisles, too. It's the only way to do it. Is your handwriting always so neat and lovely, or are you just showing off for the Internets?

I too organize by like items/aisles, but would never dream of putting more than one item on a row. It hurts my brain. I was so puzzled. One item comma another item? AAAAAAARGH

(also, I have a typed up grocery list with little check boxes that I use when I am really planning ahead - so organized)

Is it wrong that I looked at that list and saw "grilled god" instead of "cod"? And that it didn't seem strange to me?
Submitted by Marcia at 11/12/2007 7:11:33 PM
You are so organized! I can't plan my meals that far in advance. I can barely get to the store before I need to start cooking. I think you're my hero now...
Submitted by FP at 11/12/2007 8:56:22 PM
Alesia--It's pretty much always like that. And, thanks!

Alyce--All of the items that share a line also share a distinct area of the store. I live at the store.

Jane--Sometimes I grill God. And it really annoys him. He's all, "Hey! Step back! Quit grilling me!" But then it snows and I know that we're buddies again.

Marcia--Let's get something clear: My grocery lists are organized. Every other facet of my life is completely disorganized and dripping with slop. I'm no hero.
