Something very special is happening at my house. Someone once told me that a person’s skin and hair changes every seven years or so, and sometimes products that didn’t really suit you before suddenly become your best friend!
I haven’t been able to eat citrus fruits (or drink their juices!) since I was in my mid 20s. Oranges (and grapefruits and lemons and pineapples, etc.) made my skin explode and my stomach punch me from the inside. (Wait. Did you notice how I used the word Made? Past tense! I’m sort of foreshadowing!) Anyway, because I love citrus juices, every year I would dig into one of the above mentioned fruits to test my system, and a few hours later I would end up saying something like, “The rest of the oranges are up for grabs. Ugh.”
A few months back, Jeff brought a box of oranges into the house so I could do my yearly trial. I ate one. It was, as you know, amazing. I ate another. Still amazing. I have probably eaten fifty oranges in the past two months, and my skin is fine, and my stomach feels great, and yes! I’m Back in the Citrus Game! When BlogHer put out the word that Tropicana was looking for reviewers, I jumped up and down and screamed, “I am PERFECT for this job, because drinking orange juice has become like discovering a new color in the crayon box for me!” (Seriously, when you’ve gone for nearly 15 years without being able to eat/drink something you love and suddenly it’s there for you again? This is nothing but good.)
When I started writing this review, I already knew quite a few things about Tropicana Pure Premium. For example, I know that one eight ounce glass of Tropicana Pure Premium provides the same amount of potassium as a medium banana. It’s a good source of folate, which is super important for body tissues that have quick cell production and turnover rates—like your bone marrow and your intestinal tract. PLUS, as you know, it’s an amazing source of Vitamin C, which supports a healthy immune system.
I’m pleased to report that I have learned So Much More about Tropicana Pure Premium! Let me share.
1. Each 59-ounce container of Tropicana Pure Premium holds the juice of sixteen fresh-picked oranges. That’s a LOT of oranges. I love that!
2. The current food pyramid recommends that everyone eats two to four servings of fruit each day. ONE eight-ounce glass of Tropicana Pure Premium counts as TWO fruit servings. If you’re having trouble getting your fruit in, I just gave you the best truth nugget you’ll receive all day. You’re welcome!
3. Despite what many people believe, Tropicana Pure Premium has no added sugar. It’s 100% pure juice. No weird sweeteners or colors or water or syrups. Juice. That’s it. And that’s sort of a big deal, because I remember the days when I would go juice shopping for my kids and I was constantly running into juices that were less than 50% juice. (And loaded with extra sweeteners.) Crazy. Again—Tropicana Pure Premium? 100% Juice. No extras. Excellent.
Because I’ve been so excited about being able to drink orange juice again, I’ve actually gotten my kids excited about it, too. Suddenly, they’re eating the kinds of breakfasts that you see those utopian kids in commercials eating—with all four food groups well represented. AND, this may or may not be related: Meredith, my almost-eight-year-old has suddenly started fixing her own hair before school—and it looks great! I’m not saying Tropicana is fully responsible for our mornings actually running more smoothly and for Meredith’s sudden ability to groom herself, but I’ll take it. Wouldn’t you? Tropicana has definitely helped put the Good in our morning.
How do you put the Good in your mornings? Do you have a morning routine that works for your family? Do you get enough fruit in your diet? Our morning routine is not always routine, but it always includes breakfast. We are working to add more appropriate choices from the food pyramid as well. I will have to try some of the Tropicana Pure Premium. I to have acid issues, but the kids like orange juice. I just have to try and have it in the middle of the day.

Bonus – Tropicana also has the lovely “low acid” version of orange juice that is PERFECT when one is suffering from the flu. I discovered that in December.
And now I need more orange juice in my house. Again.

I love oranges but, am always disappointed when I take a bite only to find that it isn’t sweet. I haven’t been buying them as much because of that.

I do so love the Orange Juice. It is also very good with bourbon (NO – not for BREAKFAST – geez!).
My favorite morning routine is something my husband invented called “Fried Egg Friday” in which he makes fried eggs for anyone in the family who would like them (on Friday, of course).

Daily Tropicana user here. The 6-year-old and I start each day with smoothies made of OJ, banana, frozen fruit, flax oil and Whole Foods’ soy protein powder with spirulina. Like most small children, he basically hates food, so it’s always a relief that I can cram a superdose of nutrition into him in the morning.

I use my tropicana in my fruit smoothies for an afternoon snack.

Mornings are…less crazy now than when I was a kid. I actually make time for breakfast everymorning. (Thank god for flex time). But getting enough fruits and veggies is TOUGH in the winter when everything looks sad and comes from halfway across the globe. I’ve been LOVING oranges this winter though. Mmmm. : )

My mornings are chaotic! I try to have a GOOD ATTITUDE or the whole day is jacked up!
My teenagers stay up too late and that can cause some hurried mornings and lotsa fussing.
20 Effie // Mar 15, 2011 at 1:17 pm
hmm. Well, my morning starts off by me getting up too early in order to have a few minutes of quiet “me” time. Then it continues with the youngest kid waking up just a bit too early so I have to carry him around while I’m preparing work lunches and sometimes school lunches. Then I get breakfast ready–we try to have a hearty breakfast but usually it includes: juice, waffles-or-cereal-or-oatmeal-or-toast and peanut butter-or-english muffins with eggs, a bowl of fruit and a bowl of yogourt-or-cottage cheese. While that is happening, I *try* to start waking up the girls, sometimes successfully, other times (especially since the time change) not so successfully. We try to eat breakfast as a family every day–I like this. Then we scramble around trying to get the kitchen tidied up, everyone to the bathroom, dressed, teeth brushed and out the door less than 10 to 15 minutes later. Craziness! Sometimes we manage to do this without “who pooped!!” or “no, don’t pour out all your building blocks right now” or “I said it’s time to put your boots on please and leave your sister’s hair alone”, etc, etc.
What a crazy morning. Orange juice always helps smooth it out.
21 Kelli // Mar 15, 2011 at 4:11 pm
Our morning routine involves an alarm clock that goes off for my son at 7am. I set the Time Timer for 40 minutes and he has to get dressed and eat breakfast in that time. After the timer goes off he brushes his teeth, puts on shoes and heads out the door.
My job is to stay out of his way and make sure he has a piece of fruit for breakfast and a snack packed in his backpack. He can get his own cereal and pour his own milk. (And do it quietly enough that his younger siblings who go to school in the afternoon can sleep a bit longer.)

We have a very low threshold for good mornings. If we can get both kids (aged not quite 1 and 3) to their respective schools on time and relatively unstained with some calories powering their systems (sometimes high quality whole foods, more often transfatted “food products”), we consider it a raging success! And if they’re smiling as they walk out the door, even better!

My Good morning starts at 5am, the only time in my day when I get to be alone. I get up, have coffee and put together breakfast for me and my munchkin. She’s up at 6, we’re out of the house by 7:15, eating breakfast on the way. I don’t usually get enough fruit in my diet. Too much sugar for me. But my growing child gets plenty of fruit.

I come from a long line of ‘not morning people’. My mother is not a morning person and neither is my grandmother. Putting the good in mornings would be code for ‘don’t mess with mom’.
I’ve always enjoyed a good breakfast, though. Caramel apples, cereal, pancakes, waffles – some of my favorite breakfast foods. What? You don’t eat caramel apples for breakfast? Wow! Orange juice goes with everything.
And hey? I’m so sorry you had to ix-nay on the citrus for so long because that would make me miserable. When I’m dragging, as I am prone to do, a glass of orange juice is the only thing that makes me feel human again. I celebrate your ability to intake citrus again!
Hip Hip – Hooray!

It is so easy to grab out of the ‘frige when I’m working or playing hard. We all love it so much. It’s easy to use in cooking and when making cocktails. I even have special mocktails for the young ones to help get them to drink more Tropicana. Sauces for poultry, dressings for salads, or scrumptuous desserts all turn out better when using Tropicana. Indeed a wonder helper for today’s modern family … healthy, delicious and convenient!

I take my prescriptions first thing in the morning and, if I do so on an empty stomach, I will end up nauseous for about 20 minutes. My very simple solution is a chunk of good cheese and vegetable juice. When I take the evening dose, I’m always scrambling and often end up with soda and snack food. Juice would be a far better choice.

I probably don’t get enough fruit in my diet, especially during the winter. I usually have fruit & yogurt for breakfast.

We put the good in our mornings by starting off with a good breakfast. We have everything planned out the night before so mornings are never hectic.
In the warmer months we start our mornings with OJ. In the colder months we like warmer things.
230 angie // Apr 10, 2011 at 11:18 am
When things get hectic, its easy to grab something unhealthy and go. That is why I try to keep the freezer/fridge stocked with healthy on-the-go options like single serve Naked smoothies and fresh fruit!

Love Tropicana, wish they would put all the good things into one bottle though; high pulp, calcium, and vitamin d. Haven’t tried the premium one.
233 Robin // Apr 10, 2011 at 12:33 pm
I love Tropicana Pure Premium Orange Juice, I drink a glass before going to work each morning.
234 scott // Apr 10, 2011 at 12:45 pm
I love smoothies. They are great if you are in a rush or if you have all the time in the world. They pack a huge nutritional punch and in the summer when blended with ice they are like a frozen drink! Using fresh fruit and OJ with ice in a blender = win!

Showers, breakfast (including fruit and OJ), then we can start the day.

I put the good in my morning by sneaking a few quiet moments with a cup of coffee before the rush starts! And yes, a good breakfast! I’m a nut about my family getting enough fruit – I grow lots of my own and that helps!
248 Betty C // Apr 10, 2011 at 7:43 pm
I have no routine. My children are all adults and I don’t have to wake up at a certain time. I thoroughly enjoy leisurely drinking my morning coffee, orange juice and having a bagel to get my morning started.
249 Joanne Schultz // Apr 10, 2011 at 8:02 pm
We get up each morning – that’s good!
We all love oatmeal, so that is a pretty quick breakfast to make & eat! Plus using milk on it makes it even better nutrition-wise. So we’re all off to a good start to the day!

A big part of my morning routine is to get up early and to enjoy a run or a workout while listening to my favorite music to energize myself for the day ahead. Also, I try to incorporate as much fresh fruit into breakfasts as I can, and I encourage everyone to start the day drinking a glass or two of water to stay hydrated. Thanks!
