(This is a compensated review from BlogHer and EA Sports Active for the Wii.)
If you know me at all, you know that I’m a complete sloth, minus the whole tree browsing lifestyle thing. (I tend to stay out of trees. Did you know that sometimes sloths continue to hang from branches even after they die? I am being compensated for this review!) Anyway, I move only when necessary, and when I DO move, it’s very slowly. Why waste movement? Yawwwwwwwnnnnnnnn. I’ve taken three naps since I started writing this paragraph.
Now, listen. I know that although I’m constantly obsessing about my weight, I’m not in a particularly unhealthy zone. When I complain about my weight or my size I often get the “Cry me a stinkin’ river” response. However, I AM the most unhealthy person you know when it comes to exercise. Because I get zero. And I can’t even walk down the steps without getting a bit winded, so my laundry is often ignored. Sloth. Anyway. When BlogHer gave me the opportunity to sign on for the EA Sports Active 30 Day Challenge, I was suddenly filled with apprehension. Thirty days. I can’t even remember the last time I worked out. Am I physically able to go from zero to thirty with no turning back? (My butt is whispering, “Please. PLEASE do this, as I’m dangerously close to kissing your knee pits.”)
Speaking of my butt (sort of, but not really), I’m about to tell you the most personal thing I will EVER tell you. (And I’ve told you about my annual pap smears, so you know you’re about to get something really good, right?) I’m about to tell you my 30 Day Challenge “before” measurements. And to throw you off a bit, I’m including a few extra measurements so you get a bit bogged down and don’t pay attention to the ones that count.
- Age: 39 years
- Height: 67 inches
- Nose: 2 inches
- Bicep: 11 inches
- Neck: 13.5 inches
- Bust: 38 inches post-lactation
- Waist: 34 inches (Have I ever told you that I gained 80 pounds during my first pregnancy? My waist will never be the same. I constantly tell myself that the stretchy flab is charming. Deep down I know that I’m lying.)
- Hips: 40 inches (This is what I see as my problem zone. Oh, look at me. I’m all naked and crying in front of you right now. Can you even sense the vulnerability?!)
- Thigh: 21 inches, and able to crush a watermelon.
- Weight: Hhhhhhhhhh. 145 pounds. Not bad, but not where I really want to be. I’ve always felt my healthiest when I’m sitting around in the buck thirty five range. (Why does saying my weight out loud make me want to drink gin straight out of the bottle? Do you want to maybe make out or something?)
Anyway. The 30 Day Challenge actually consists of 20 workouts, because the Sports Active folks recognize the importance of rest. In other words, you’re actually encouraged to take a break every 3-4 days! (If, like me, you lean toward the lumpish, the Rest Day thing seems like a very nice idea.)
From what I hear, the next thirty days are going to be filled with inline skating and boxing and tennis and running and all of the things I’ve never really done outside of my house. (So why go outside now, right?) I’m excited. My only goal? Lose six pounds and have fun doing it. Sounds simple right?
Let’s go.
WEEK 2 UPDATE: My Pants are Falling Down
WEEK 3 UPDATE: What?! Huh? Okay then!
WEEK 4 UPDATE: I’m more flan-like than pudding-esque!
ETA: I’m absolutely NOT doing this to change my body shape. (Yeah, yeah, the six pounds thing. Whatever. I recently noted that self-consciousness is a friend of mine. Seriously? I would be self-conscious if I looked like Jessica Biel.) The measurements were provided as a Before/After sort of thing just to see if anything DOES change. But thanks for all of the e-mails!

You are a brave soul! You will see no such photo of me, headless or otherwise, and no measurements. Alas. I am as slovenly as you, which is certainly part of the reason that I’m severely overweight. I’m doing the 30 day challenge right along with you, and I’m glad to have some company on this exercise journey. :)

Yay you! I just got this on Thursday and I’m on day 6 of 30 (having done 4 workouts and this is my 2nd rest day).
Day one had me literally begging the TV to not make me do any more squats. I feared that I would never be able to go from standing to sitting unassisted. However, I’m fully amazed that by the 4th day of actual exercise I’m already recovering faster from the workouts (set on “easy”–I’m no chump).
I’ve never stuck with a workout plan before and i’m just hovering on the upper end of the “acceptable” weight range for my height, so I’m hoping to really stick with it. I’m glad to know that others are doing this at the same time. Maybe it’ll keep me going! good luck to you!!

I just blogged today about my stupid 34″ waist. How can you have almost the same measurements as me and look so much better? So. Not. Fair.
But good luck with the program. 21 days to make a habit, right? I’m on day 12 of my crack smoking habit, and I just don’t know that I can keep it up.
And one tip: Epsom salts and apple cider vinegar, a cup of each, into a bathtub with water so hot it’s just barely tolerable, paired with a glass of red wine (which you drink) will totally pull out all of that nasty lactic acid you’ll be feeling. My massage therapist gave me this tip, and I think I owe her a 100% tip next time I see her because it completely helped me go from hobbling cripple to lithe ballerina in two baths. (after I overdid it on my legs workout 2 weeks ago).

Girlfriend – let me just slap you and snap you out of it. You are gorgeous with an adorable figure. Don’t do this to “change your measurements” because they are absolutely fine. Only do it to feel better. Plenty of women just looked at your picture and want to hurt you.
(Not that I’m one of them. Nope. Not me. Nuh uh. Also not irritated with the commenters who clearly also have adorable figures. Not gritting my teeth AT ALL. Oh, yeah? I know you are but what am I???)
Lurve you Angie!

Dahling, you look maaaaaahvelous! But I’m interested to see how you like that Wii program. I love Wii Fit (even if I haven’t stepped on that board in…erm, uh….. where were we?) so when I do eventually get back to trying to lose weight, I may want to add something new to the repertoire.

Hey!! GOOD LUCK!! :) As another person who worries about her fitness levels, wouldn’t mind changing a few minor details about her shape but would totally get the ‘cry me a river’ response, I say YOU GO!
Hopefully, it will be inspiration for me to get off my sloth-like and increasingly cellulite-y ass and do something about my health!

GOOD LUCK! ::pops another Krispy Kreme donut into my mouth::

I like Fluid Pudding just the way she is. But I’m behind your fitness venture all the way. Rootin’ for ya!

You’ve met me in person, so you know how I’ll weigh in on this. (HAH! GET IT??!!?? Yeah, I’ll be heavy ’til I die, most likely.)
Seriously, though: while *I* may see you this summer (I hope) and think, “Wow! She’s just as gorgeous, brilliant, funny and quietly anxious as ever!” I fully understand that may not be the personal goal you aspire to.
Your personal self image may think you are truly you when you are gorgeous, brilliant, funny, quietly anxious and 10 lbs. thinner, and that’s a YOU thing we should all respect, as long as you realize we all stick around to read the same YOU +/- whatever.

OK! You’ve inspired me to add my inches/weight too. Good job.

Ha-Ha, super funny. I love to hear about people that gained massive amts during pregnancy. I gained 54 pounds, and I’m just 5’4″. My stomach is ruined too, so glad to know I’m not alone.
