I woke up with a sore throat this morning, and honestly? I’ve never been so happy to have a sore throat. Because this is the week of BlogHer, and I’m telling myself that I *can’t* go—what with the sore throat and all. I do hope to go next year, because BlogHer is Good. If you’re going, I’m thrilled for you, because: BlogHer. In New York. If you’re not going, you can join me as I sit in the corner of my house and F5 my Flickr account every few minutes. (You can’t really come to my house.)
Meredith is taking an oil pastel class this week and during the first day she drew a pear that really looks like a pear complete with highlights and texture and it makes me want to pull out all of my old art supplies and take myself back in time to the days during which I painted post cards with acrylic paints and actually mailed them to people I didn’t know very well. I discovered that I was pregnant with Meredith while taking a watercolor class nearly eight years ago, and when the class was over I boxed up all of my supplies for our move into the house, and sadly, those boxes remain taped and stacked in the basement.
And then a seven year old created a pear.
I just drank an Earl Grey latte sweetened with Truvia, and as I type this line, it’s changing my life for the better. (Harper’s karate instructor sang the praises of Truvia/Stevia/Zevia/IKnowVia to me last week, and I’ll do whatever it takes to make our house aspartame free, so: Truvia! Despite appearances, this parenthetical thought has not been brought to you by the makers of Truvia, who, incidentally, do not reside in Latvia! Synovia! Effluvia!)
I want to go to BlogHer next year. I want to go to BlogHer *this* year. Girl, you know it’s Truvia.

I’m going to have a Laughing Cow in my side bar for six months, and you know what that means. I’m giving money away! Come over here, tell me a funny workout story, and you could win $150! ‘ ‘ ‘text/javascript’>
Wow! You are very brave. I would never pee on a pregnancy test in the middle of an art class. Go you!
That’s a lovely pear! I want to go to BlogHer next year, too.
@ Tempe – LOL
Angela – be v. careful with the stevia. I noticed recently that coffee from one particular purveyor seemed to be making me really jumpy (like really really – buzzy eyeballs jumpy) – except when it didn’t. Coffee from another purveyor – no problem. I realized one day as I bitched about the absence of Truvia at the second non-jumpy purveyor that maybe this was why their coffee didn’t make me jumpy. Also – I don’t ALWAY use stevia at the “sometimes jumpy” purveyor.
I eliminated the stevia – and Voila!!!
I am also fairly sensitive to caffeine and pseudoephedrine – so maybe stimulants in general work really well on me – but it is something to consider – particularly with the children.
P.S. this came up in a group conversation the other day, and another woman mentioned a similar reaction to a stevia-sweetened water.
I haven’t had a chance to consult any dieticians or medical specialists to see whether this is accurate . . . .
BlogHer will not be the same without you, but at least this way, you can’t spread your cold to 3,000 friends. Hope you feel better soon!
I love you…via.
Sincerely,
M. Vanilli
I wish you could go to BlogHer because I know a certain little bird who is black who has wanted to meet you for a verrry long time…..
However, I suspect that you two would be instant BFFS and as there are only so many Angela’s one can have in one’s life, you can see why I might be conflicted.
On the other hand, if I mentioned how very COLD it can be where I live in the winter, I’m pretty sure I might eventually score a lovely handknit item from you, so there’s that.
I can’t take it.
I
CANNOT
TAKE
IT.
You are going to make me have to drive to your damn house, aren’t you?
I’ve done that drive – it’s not my favorite thing.
Damn.
Can we meet in the middle?
What is IN THE MIDDLE?
Love stevia, LOVE IT! I even grow the plant.
Vitaminwater Zero (f/k/a Vitaminwater 10) is sweetened with it (and some others, but NO aspartame or sucralose).
What a great pear! I think my daughter is in that same class (SLCC-Meramec?) — she drew a peach yesterday. Ask M if she has a shy little girl named Erin with dark brown hair and blue glasses in her class. :-)
I hear ya sista’! I want to be at BlogHer and have plans to go next year….one whole year away. Bummed to have missed out on the party this year.
That pear is fantastic! I’m a splenda girl myself. I wish they put it in diet coke.
It was my first time at BlogHer and while I really enjoyed it, I was a bit overwhelmed – so many people, so much stuff going on! I didn’t get to meet up with so many who I knew to be there. You can’t really count on just stumbling upon someone in such throngs of people.
However, if you’re there next year (and I’m already planning to be there!), I’d love to make a plan to meet you – unless we manage to meet up before then, say at California Pizza Kitchen on Olive?? Or something…
